Cracks and gaps in the ice can be troublesome. You can fix them quite easily though.
If the crack is wide enough to catch a skate or cause the water to seep under the ice then you can fix this with a very simple recipie. The same process can be used for gaps made by hard skating or wide cracks. Take some snow (or the shavings off the ice after a skating session) and pack it into the crack/gap. Then take a spray bottle and spray the snow until it forms a slush. Repack the slush to be sure you have it level and wait for it to freeze. Resurface the rink as usual and your crack is gone! The packed snow once frozen will be just as hard if not harder than the ice around it.
